Emmy does its part for the success of the UN's sustainable development goals
In 2015, UN member states agreed on an action program and goals for sustainable development, which guide the promotion of sustainable development from 2016 to 2030. Their aim is to eliminate extreme poverty from the world and ensure well-being in an environmentally sustainable way. An essential part of sustainable development is the planet's limits. Human activity should be adapted to the Earth's natural carrying capacity. Research has shown that due to human activity, the climate is changing rapidly, oceans are acidifying, and entire ecosystems are disappearing. Practices must also change at the individual level as quickly as possible, otherwise the Earth will soon not be a good home for humans either.
The sustainable development action plan has 17 main points, of which Emmy's activities most affect point 12. The goal of this point is to ensure the sustainability of consumption and production patterns. The world's population is expected to rise to 9.6 billion by 2050. If this happens, we would need three Earths to maintain our current lifestyle globally. The goal is for economic activity to produce as much well-being as possible, while reducing the use of natural resources and pollution. Of the sub-goals, the practices applicable to Emmy's operations are:
- Sustainable and efficient use of natural resources
- Significantly reduce the generation of waste by using prevention, recycling, and reuse methods
- Adoption of sustainable practices by companies
- Ensure that sustainable development and a nature-friendly lifestyle are known everywhere
