Emmy’s Garment Care Guide
Care for your clothes regularly and they’ll stay in good condition—and in rotation—much longer. A garment’s carbon footprint shrinks with every additional wear. Instead of buying new again and again, a few simple care steps can make pieces look almost like new. And when an item reaches the end of its life with you, good maintenance helps it sell better and ensures it finds a happy second home. Even small touch-ups can make a big difference to a garment’s future.
Our friend and garment-care expert Arkévé Atelier has compiled quick, easy tips below for caring for clothes, shoes and accessories. Get inspired and give them a try—good care extends lifespan and preserves value.
De-pilling
De-pilling is a fast, easy refresh that transforms a garment instantly. The best tool is a quality fabric shaver. The Steamery Pilo 2 Fabric Shaver can be used safely on all materials and garments.

Odor Removal
For a natural deodorizer, use vinegar or baking soda.
If the garment is washable, soak it in a vinegar solution (about 1 dl / 10 l water). You can safely use a vinegar soak on wool and silk as well.
If the item can’t be washed, mist it with a 1:1 vinegar–water solution and let it air out.
How to freshen with baking soda
- Place the garment in a plastic bag and sprinkle baking soda over it.
- Seal the bag tightly and leave it overnight.
- Brush off the soda with a clothes brush.

Brushing
Use a clothes brush to remove dust, hair, and loose dirt. For extra cleaning power, mist the fabric lightly with water before brushing. Brushing with a water spray also helps lift surface stains and remove wash lint/pilling residue. A well-brushed garment looks refreshed instantly!

A clothes brush is a durable, waste-free alternative to lint rollers. Wool garments benefit especially: regular brushing smooths the fiber surface and helps prevent pilling.
Yellowing & darkening
Tackle yellowing or darkened areas naturally with an oxygen-based stain remover.
Soak the garment overnight in a solution of about 5 l water + 1–2 tbsp oxygen bleach (stain salt), then wash as usual. Repeat the soak if needed until the stain is gone.

Washing & caring for knits
Before selling, wash, brush, and de-pill your wool garments. Follow these tips for great results.

Wash
Pre-treat stains with gall soap or Marseille soap.
Turn the knit inside out and place it in a laundry bag. Choose a hand-wash/wool cycle. Make sure the temperature is 30°C and the spin is minimal. Wash with a wool-specific detergent and use laundry vinegar (white vinegar) in the rinse. Dry flat.
Care
Lay the knit on a pillow for maintenance— the soft base keeps it in place.
Brush the knit section by section with firm strokes using a clothes brush. If any pills remain, remove them gently with a fabric shaver.

Cleaning sneakers
A clean pair of sneakers sells better than three dirty ones — that’s Emmy × Arkivé’s rule of thumb.

Get spotless sneakers with JASON MARKK
- Remove laces and machine-wash them in a laundry bag.
- Replace frayed laces with new ones if needed.
- Clean the shoes with JASON MARKK sneaker cleaner and a brush:
- Dampen the brush and add a small amount of cleaner.
- Scrub thoroughly all over—use some elbow grease to lift dirt.
- For leather: wipe off dirt and foam with a cloth (no rinse needed).
- For suede and canvas: rinse after cleaning.
- Dry with a towel or microfiber cloth and let air-dry in a ventilated spot.
- For suede, once dry, re-nap the surface by brushing back and forth.
- Use a protector spray on suede and canvas.
- Condition leather with a leather care product.

Caring for leather bags
Refresh a leather bag in minutes:- Vacuum or brush the lining to remove loose debris.
- Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth and let it dry briefly.
- Apply a leather conditioner and let it work for at least 5 minutes (again, less is more).
- Buff to a gentle shine with a clean shoe brush.

We wish you many satisfying care sessions with your favorite garments. Clothing care is rewarding—you see the results immediately. It can even be so enjoyable you’ll get hooked! A pilled knit or a hard-working leather bag can look nearly like new again after just a few minutes of TLC.
Give it a try—and fall in love with the results!
